Welcome to our 6th grade website!

We can't believe we are over half-way through our year already. We've read Bad Boy by Walter Dean Myers, Nothing but the Truth by Avi, Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan, and are currently working on The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. We've also tackled a range of math topics - negative numbers, algebra, ratios, and much more.

In the beginning of the year we completed projects on individual countries in Africa, and are now finishing up a unit on The Holocaust. We've both been very impressed with the maturity and interest that our students have shown for this topic.

We are concluding our study of the human body in Science, and are integrating our research unit in Writing through a  project on diseases of the human body. This project has allowed students to investigate a disease in depth while honing their oral presentation skills.

Homework Expectations:

In order to prepare our 6th graders for 7th grade, we will hold them to a very high standard with their homework:

ReadingStudents are expected to read 45 minutes every night. This year, we will be doing text analysis based on passages students will be assigned for homework. It is critical that students complete these readings so that they can come to class the next day prepared to dive-into a deep reading of the text.

Math: Students will be expected to spend at least 20 minutes per night on IXL. In addition, they will receive a math assignment many nights.

Science/Social Studies: Students will also receive science and social studies homework that they will be expected to complete. This may include working on independent projects at home.
